Community Watch: Denton asks residents to shape 2027 housing priorities

The opportunity
The City of Denton says its annual Funding Priority Survey is open from September 1 through October 31, 2026. The feedback will inform planning for the city's 2027 Action Plan for Housing and Community Development. The city says federal housing and community-development funds support needs such as housing, public services, and neighborhood improvements for low- and moderate-income residents. The survey is about priorities; it is not an announcement that any specific project has been approved.
Why this matters to residents
Housing decisions extend beyond a home listing. Programs for first-time buyers, home repairs, and rental assistance affect neighbors at different stages of life. Denton's Community Development page lists those services, along with local partners. It also explains that annual planning asks the public where limited resources should go. Residents who have first-hand experience with access, maintenance, or service gaps can give the city information a planning document alone may miss.
The city's separate Community Benchmark Surveys page describes how resident feedback is used to help allocate resources, set service levels, and plan for the future. That is a different survey, not the funding-priority questionnaire, but it shows why giving specific, local feedback is useful. A comment such as “this block needs safer access to services” is more actionable than a broad statement that housing matters.
How to participate
Visit the City's Community Development page and follow its “Annual Funding Priority Survey” link. The city lists October 31 as the closing date. Before submitting, consider which housing or community-service needs you have actually observed, where they occur, and who is affected. Avoid including another person's private information. If the survey link does not work for you, the city's Community Development office lists a phone number, (940) 349-7726, on the same page.
This is a Denton city process, not a countywide vote, and the 2027 plan has not been finalized. We will watch for the city's published next steps and update this article if the window or process changes.
